TLC: Top Library Cat

TLC: Top Library Cat

Many library patrons have dozed off in a soft chair at their favorite local library, book in hand, but only a lucky few get the chance to snooze at the library with a cat.

Yes, a cat. So many libraries in the United States have cats, there are actually a few websites that list them so people can visit. By now everyone has heard of Dewey, the library cat in Spencer Iowa, whose best selling books are on kids and adults book shelves. His popularity and books have made having a library cat nothing to sneeze at.

Broken Bow, Nebraska  librarians will tell you their cat, TLC (short for Top Library Cat), loves Lilian Jackson Braun’s cat mysteries. But when TLC isn’t reading, he’s usually curled up near the library’s beautiful fireplace.

Madeline and Emma live at the Haskell Township Library in Sublette, Kansas. The kitty sisters were adopted from a shelter and now greet customers at the library door and curl up with kids who are reading.

Pine River Public Library in Pine River, Minnesota, is the home of Browser, the big black cat. He does a little blogging for the library, and a picture of him is posted in different locations around town for library patrons to find. It’s not hard to find him at the library, though. He’s often in his kitty condo inside the library.
Next time you’re at your local  library, voice a quick, “Here, kitty, kitty,” and see what happens.
